Customs rules:
The Customs rules of the Republic of Croatia are in accordance with the standards of the European Union. Foreign currency in the amount up to 3 000 Euro can be freely brought in and out of the country; with Croatian currency the amount allowed is 15 000 Kuna. Valuable professional and technical equipment must be registered at the border crossing. Dogs and cats accompanying the owner must have the International Certificate from an official veterinarian, stating that the
animal(s) has (have) been vaccinated against rabies at least 15 days ago, but not longer than 6 months ago.
When leaving the country, foreign citizens can obtain tax return for goods worth over 500 Kuna, after they present a certified "Porezni ček" form (Tax cheque). Information: Croatian Customs (01 6102 333). More information: www.carina.hr
Tax return for foreign citizens
Tourists that purchase goods in Croatia (except oil derivates) worth over 500 Kuna per bill can ask for return of VAT (=Value Added Tax; Croatian abbreviation is PDV).
During the purchase, the salesman is obligated to give the PDV-P form to the buyer. The form must be filled out and certified with a stamp on the place of purchase. When leaving the country, the bill must be certified by Croatian Customs.
VAT return in kunas can be obtained within 6 months in the store where the goods had been purchased. Tax is returned immediately. VAT return can also be obtained by sending a certified bill to the store; together with the number of the account to which payment is to be made. In this case, tax is returned within 15 days after the bill is received.
